On the 28th of May 2012 the FA council approved 9v9 Football after the youth development review conducted by the FA. To summarise the proposals the game will be played in 16' x 7' goals on a reduced size pitch for U11's and U12's age groups.
Goal Size
16' x 7' goals are the required size. The goals must have been independently tested in compliance with British Standard BS 8462 2005+A2:2012.

Pitch Size
An intermediate size pitch will be introduced 80m x 50m. Trials have been carried out by the FA using a pitch marked out in blue which runs from the 18 yard boxes and is reduced in width.

Age Groups
The 9v9 format is for children in the U12's and U11's age bracket.
Introduction
The 9v9 format of the game will be mandatory from season 2013/14 but optional from 2012/13.
Grant Funding
In association with the The FA, the Football Foundation is introducing an new funding scheme specifically to support this initiative, offering grants at 50% of the cost of British Standard compliant goalposts.
Grant Procedure
The grant application will need the support of your county FA however unlike the previous process, all applications will now go directly to the Foundation, rather than via the County FA's. The clubs will need to identify the goalposts they wish to purchase including the supplier, product name, cost and reference number. The applicants will be sent a grant offer and then can purchase the goals directly from thier choice of supplier. Once the club have received the goals and paid for them they can submit the invoice from the supplier to the Football Foundation who will refund 50%.
Should an individual club attempt to purchase 9v9 goals directly from a supplier without a grant offer letter they would be deemed to be outside of the scheme and not be offered a grant.
